What we Do:
We work with radio stations to develop and disseminate agricultural content that responds to specific concerns of defined communities in the knowledge that the information needs of Kenyans are varied, depending on regions and the socio-economic activities of the residents.
At KiMI we specialize in adapting the radio for agricultural extension to smallholder farmers, to disseminate timely and accurate agricultural information delivered in the local languages in collaboration with our local partners at various levels.
We also build the capacity of the staff at the community and regional radio stations to understand, identify and package programmes that address the specific needs of their audiences. Presentation of radio content in the local dialect increases listenership, particularly where listeners are not confident about communicating in English and Kiswahili.
KiMI’s experience from FVR has shown that radio listeners are more receptive to, and easily adopt information that addresses their specific issues and is communicated to them in the local dialect.
